Selank

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is an analogue of the endogenous tetrapeptide tuftsin, with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. The addition of the Pro-Gly-Pro sequence to the parent tuftsin structure significantly enhances its metabolic stability and duration of action in preclinical research settings.

Researchers have studied Selank for its potential interactions with the GABAergic and serotonergic neurotransmitter systems. In preclinical models, studies have examined its effects on anxiety-related behaviors, suggesting possible anxiolytic properties through mechanisms distinct from classical benzodiazepines.
