Dermorphin

$35.00

Heptapeptide opioid receptor ligand studied for mu-opioid receptor binding research in vitro. For research use only.

Dermorphin is a naturally occurring heptapeptide originally isolated from the skin of South American frogs of the genus Phyllomedusa. With the sequence Tyr-D-Ala-Phe-Gly-Tyr-Pro-Ser-NH2, it was among the first naturally occurring peptides found to contain a D-amino acid (D-Ala), which contributes significantly to its resistance to enzymatic degradation and its high potency at opioid receptors.

Researchers have studied Dermorphin for its extraordinarily high affinity and selectivity for mu-opioid receptors (MOR). Studies have characterized its binding affinity as substantially greater than that of morphine, making it a valuable pharmacological tool for studying MOR biology. Research has examined its role in elucidating opioid receptor subtype selectivity and the structural requirements for mu versus delta opioid receptor binding.

Preclinical research has used Dermorphin and its analogues as reference tools in studies of opioid-mediated analgesia, respiratory depression, and receptor desensitization. Research has explored how its D-amino acid content influences its pharmacokinetic properties compared to all-L-amino acid opioid peptides. Its unique natural origin and exceptional MOR selectivity have made it a compound of enduring interest in opioid receptor pharmacology and the broader study of naturally occurring peptide hormones from amphibian sources.
